In the 77th running of the Le Mans 24 Hour Race, it was third time lucky for Peugeot, when they finally overcame the dominance of Audi, to take a strong one-two victory in the epic endurance race battle at La Sarthe. Obviously for Ferrari fans the main interest what in the LMGT2 division, which comprised of ten Ferrari F430 GTs, doing battle with five Porsche 997 GT3 RSRs, plus singleton entries for Aston Martin and Spyker.

The "Concours of Elegance" organized at the end of April, under the patronage of BMW Group and within the exceptional gardens of the Grand Hotel Villa de's, located on the shores of the Lago di Como at Cernobbio in Italy, is without any doubt the most beautiful and most select Concours in Europe. Each year, and for the 80 years of its existence, the Concorso d'Eleganza gathers over fifty exceptional automobiles, historical vehicles whose history and design are jewels of the mechanized era.

23NotizieA brief history of the Mille Miglia
What makes this event so special and unique
The called them the "four musketeers." They were two counts who were the driving force behind the newly founded 'Automobil Club di Brescia', Count Aymo Maggi di Gradella and Count Franco Mazzotti. Then there was Senior Renzo Castagneto, a formidable organizer with a racing car past, and Giovanni Canestri, the great journalist of the 'Gazzetta dello Sport', the Italian daily sports newspaper.

For this year, activity for the Mille Miglia began on Wednesday, May 13, when all the cars were brought to the dedicated area of the Autodromo Franciacorta. There was later a press conference and a presentation of sponsors, followed by Mass in the old cathedral, Duomo Vecchio, at Piazza Paolo VI. On Thursday morning, May 14, the participating cars were transferred to the Piazza della Loggia for scrutinising.

For its eighteenth edition, the prestigious French historic event changed its name and became the Tour Auto Optic 2000. The race organizers also took advantage of this change to propose a new, largely original itinerary, located in the Northeast of France, but also keeping the principles which always made this rally a success - a grid of more than 200 cars with crews coming from the four corners of the world, travelling a course alternating between circuits and roads of scenic charm.

During the fifties and into the early sixties, the "Tour de France Automobile" represented the defining reference for automobile rallies, mixing circuit races with high speed hill climbs on closed roads. The sectors in between, often on minor roads, were marked with hourly controls and check point, with an average speed limit of no more than 50 kph.

For this unique design project based on the F430 chassis, Ferrari accepted the challenge of developing a style capable of expressing the desires of the Customer, exalting the characteristics that for him best identify Ferrari cars, namely the balanced mix of sports performance and elegance. Right from the first concept sketches, the design choices were oriented toward a compact, lightweight and dynamic vehicle.

72Arte'Heritage of Speed' captures the Ferrari Testa Rossa
An artist is sometimes the best person to present a work of art

Anthony Lauro

Peter Harholdt

As a designer and artist, I have always been fascinated by the traditional art of coach building. There is something inherently magical about building a car by hand. In today's era of cad driven design, everything from the smallest potato peeler to jumbo jets is made with the same soulless numeric precision. In our quest for efficiency and perfection, we have lost the subtle abstract essence that a hand crafted car or piece of art subconsciously conveys.

Another Dalia scale presentation

Terzo Dalia has made a passion out of manufacturing scale model Ferraris over the years, from entire models to stand alone chassis and stand alone body bucks, to engines and transmissions. He has quite a following because his work is detailed and accurate (as it must be for a serious modeller) but also because his objects d'arte are in a very impressive 1/3 scale. This makes them inspiring in their conception and striking in their appearance.

Everybody come to Maranello

Rick Carey

Hugo Garritsen, MPS Editorial

The event promotor's greatest concern is, "What if I put on the show and no one comes?" RM Auctions had, if anything, the opposite concern with its recent Ferrari auction in Maranello. The place was packed. And not a surprise, either, € 75 got a catalog, a 2.25 lb tome of glossy paper with excellent clean design, sharp photos and posts of Ferrari and Maserati history. Possessing the catalog was all it took to gain entry into the F1 Logistics Building next to Ferrari's Fiorano test track.
